Shahid Kapoor: From chocolate boy to the rugged hero!

  • Not many noticed the thin background dancer, who began his Bollywood journey with Subhash Ghai's film Taal back in 1999. Shahid Kapoor shot to fame as the notorious college boy named Rajiv Mathur with his debut film, Ishq Vishq in 2003. It marked the debut of both Shahid as well as his co-star Amrita Rao. They later made an appearance together in Sooraj R. Barjatya's film Vivah in 2006. Both their performances earned appreciation from the critics. The chocolate boy, who is blessed with good looks and a killer smile, took the industry by storm!

  • His blockbuster film Jab We Met saw him portraying a decent, romantic and sophisticated character, wearing chic mufflers, rimless frames to suits. His serious look opposite his ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor won million hearts in 2007. Two years later we got a different and daring avatar of the bad-boy Shahid in Kaminey (2009). Both the movies were huge commercial hits and became a turning point in Shahid's filmy career.

  • Post his Kaminey success, the actor activated his punk mode in close friend Ahmed Khan's film, Paathshaala in 2010 opposite Ayesha Takia. His college kid-looks didn't impress critics but was a hit with young girls. Continuing his disappointing run at the box office in 2011, Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur's film, Mausam opposite Sonam Kapoor too bombed at the box office. But Shahid's no-nonsense look as the Air Force squadron leader was a hit. The trimmed moustache even went on to set a trend!

  • Phata Poster Nikla Hero and R...Rajkumar portrayed Shahid in the tapori style from the 80's and the angry-man of the 70's. From being clean shaven to his stubble image, the films added to the mischievous rowdy look to his characters.

  • From long locks to almost bald: If you think he is done with experimenting with his roles, style and look, then you are wrong. His impressive performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's cinematic adaptation of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Haider, took all by surprise. With aggression, versatility and diversity in his acting, he is definitely setting a new bar for himself.
