Films that Rishi Kapoor could have avoided!

  • Rishi Kapoor was on a picture posting spree on Twitter, of his yesteryear films which he felt he should not have acted in. While some had terrible plots and climaxes, others showed him in looks which he is now ashamed of. But we will go a step ahead and mention 10 more 'gems' which he should have avoided. 'Zinda Dil' released in the year 1975 and the film had Rishi Kapoor in a double role. The role of his army-background father was played by Pran with Neetu Singh playing love interest to one of the twins. 'Zinda Dil' was one of those early movies of Rishi Kapoor's career and the inexperience shows in most of the sequences. With hardly any good music and a terrible direction, the movie was bound to sink at the box office.

  • Do Premee- This extremely terrible film in Rishi Kapoor's repertoire was directed by none other than the master craftsman Raj Khosla, the man behind blockbusters like 'CID' and 'Mera gaon Mera Desh'. This was a stale drama and showed Rishi Kapoor and Moushumi Chatterjee in love and are forced to elope because of family pressures. The villain in the film operated a gas chamber to kill people. How ridiculous and how painful for viewers!

  • Rangeela Ratan- The title of the film says everything about Rishi Kapoor's character in the film. Giving Rishi Kapoor company in the film were Parveen Babi and Ashok Kumar. The film was released in 1976 and South heavyweight S Ramanathan had directed the film. 'Rangeela Ratan' is one film which Rishi Kapoor won't feel good about.

  • 'Anmol' was one film which was made under the supervision of ace-director Manmohan Desai in 1993. But despite his supervision the film was a disaster from the word go. The 'novelty' of the film lies in the fact that the plot was inspired from Cindrella's story. The pairing of Rishi Kapoor with Manisha Koirala looked, well almost, terrible.

  • Ranbhoomi- Rishi Kapoor's character in this film was christened Bholanath, a village simpleton who comes to Mumbai with Rs 500 and decides to give that money to a prostitute thinking the money will be safe with her. You get the drift? Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha were other known stars who provided star power to this terrible film. It was another disaster of the year 1991.

  • Garjana- Cine goers should be thankful that this film never saw the lights of cinema halls. The film had Sri Devi and Vinod Khanna in pivotal roles apart from Rishi Kapoor. The film was mired into legal hassles which prevented the release of the film. But whatever reports the film carried during its making, viewers should be thankful that they were saved from an ordeal.

  • Kaun Saccha Kaun Jhootha- This film was directed by Partho Ghosh who had a reputation of making good thrillers in the late 90s. Sadly this film failed to hit the bull's eye. Rishi Kapoor portrayed the role of a mentally disturbed person who escapes from a mental asylum while Sri Devi was the doctor in the film who treats him. The film released in 1997 and this was also the phase when Rishi Kapoor was on a films-signing-spree without bothering abut the plot of the film.

  • Azad Desh Ke Ghulam- Credit should go to this film for speaking about the issue of child trafficking. The treatment though, in the film, at best was juvenile. Rishi Kapoor played a lawyer who was in love with another lawyer played by Rekha. The interesting title of the film was no match to the plot of the film.

  • Hawalaat- Credit should go to the director of the film Surendra Mohan for making two films in the same year - 1987 - 'Hawalaat' and 'Hirasat'. We really wonder if they both were sequels to each other. Despite the presence of stars like Mithun Chakraborty and Shatrughan Sinha, the film was awful. Food for thought - The hit pair of the decade was Rishi Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure and this film showed them as siblings.

  • Janam Janam- The film had one of Bollywood's favourite themes at the core of its plot - reincarnation. Rishi Kapoor as an architect visits a small village as a part of his project and once settled in his new accommodation starts encountering things which remind him of his past life. The direction was a non starter in this flop film.
