  • Dum Laga Ke Haisha is one of those movies which is perfect because of its subtlety. The film has quite a few symbolisms of the 1990's era with the songs, the dialogues and the costumes which took the audience back to the time of cassettes playing Kumar Sanu songs and landline phones without caller ID's. Ayushmann Khuranna and Bhoomi Pednekar did a fabulous job of a young couple living in a conservative society who are forced in an arrange marriage. The movie gained a lot of appreciation because of its unique story-line and talented actors.

  • The entire first half of Om Shanti Om shows a larger than life Bollywood era of the 1970's decade. Shah Rukh Khan plays the proverbial lovesick guy who is a junior artist and has fallen for the superstar, Shanti played by Deepika Padukone. The movie is based on of the most celebrated themes for films at that time, reincarnation. Dippy deftly essayed the character of a 70's popular actress with looking just right in the character through her costumes, make-up and mannerisms, especially the signature hand wave. The bell-bottom pants, chic hairstyles, the songs and signature dance steps of cabaret, all these small things helped director Farah Khan to show the beautiful and rosy side of that decade.

  • Set in the post independence period of the early 1950's, the movie Lootera revolved around Sonakshi Sinha's character, an aspiring writer who falls in love with a con-man posing as an architect named Varun played by Ranveer Singh. Therein, develops a cautiously beautiful romance between Sonakshi and Ranveer's character.

  • If there was any movie to take the prize for a bulls-eye depiction of an early era, it would be Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, that was set in the time of the second world war, 1942. Director Dibakar Banerjee shows Calcutta as a colonial drug hub with lots of colour and history. The set is exactly what we would imagine Calcutta being like in that time, the tram, the people, the despair of victims during the bomb siren wail, all have been captured with utmost subtlety. Sushant Singh Rajput played the titular role and received a lot of appreciation for the film.
