Story

Dr. Mili Chakravarthy (Sonam Kapoor) is a young, bubbly, outgoing, outspoken and infectiously energetic physiotherapist, someone who believes in living life to the fullest and on her own terms. Wherever Mili goes, she leaves behind a trail of positiveness by making people smile with her instant wit and crazy antics. The real test of her character arises when she receives a call from the royal household of the Rathores where she is invited to come and treat the paralysed legs of the wheel-chair bound King, Raja Singh Rathore(Aamir Raza Husain). The strict household of the royals, Milli soon discovers is not in sync with her wild ways. Her in-your-face boisterous manners immediately attract the ire of the handicapped Raja and his Queen, Rani Nirmala Devi Rathore who find it difficult to keep up with Milli's loud nature. Enters an already engaged Prince charming Yuvraj Vikram Singh Rathore, son of Raja Singh Rathore who faces a unique dilemma that of wanting to hate Milli but not being able to do so. The film then goes on to explore the lives of these two strikingly different personalities, one a commoner(Sonam) and another a royal(Fawad), born and bred in radically different cultures and the connect they feel for each other despite their contradictions. Will true love truimph? Watch the movie to know the answer.

Five things we liked.

Sonam's dialogues and witty one-liners cracked the audience at regular intervals.

Kirron Kher stole the show especially in the second with her effortless performance of the quintessential and spontaneous Punjabi mother.

Fawad is perhaps the best looking man to have debuted in Bollywood this year. His impeccable dressing sense, the oh-so-seductive voice and flawlessly measured acting will surely make women audience go weak in their knees. Expect his fan following to multiply by a few more million after this performance.

Khoobsurat gives a peek in to the life and times of the Rajput kings. From beautiful snapshots of the royal palace to the royal attendants who are the beck and call of their masters, the movie offers a sneak peak into the erstwhile Maharaja household and their culture.

After Aisha, Sonam once again proves that no one can beat her when it comes to fashion. From sprightly coloured clothes big eye-hugging glares to the orange wrist watch, Sonam makes a subtle yet powerful fashion statement.

Dislikes

The first half of the movie is surprisingly quite dull and doesn't provide you with enough excitement to engage your visual senses.

The blossoming of love between Fawad and Sonam is not too convincingly portrayed. A highly inebriated Sonam kisses a sober Fawad and both realise suddenly their love for each other post the kiss. Not exactly a real life scenario.

Director Shashanka Ghosh hasn't exactly managed to extract the best performance out of Sonam. Certain scenes of Sonam were quite unnecessary. The falling of things around Sonam to indicate her accident-prone nature to her irritating ways with Fawad were meaninglessly repeated.

The not-so-happening climax leaves the audience with no major surprises.

Sonam turns coy with Khoobsurat. She cheat kisses Fawad and neither does she sashay down in her bikini while relaxing by the pool side unlike Bewakoofiyan.

Acting

Sonam delivers an average performance as Dr. Milli. Being bubbly doesn't exactly come naturally to her and it looked like she was making an effort to play her part. The strong supporting actors deliver a standout performance especially veterans Ratna Pathak Shah and Kirron Kher, both of whom are outstandingly brilliant. Fawad . an impressive debut and is here to stay for a long innings.

Our take-

This Khoobsurat is a clean family entertainer and you will surely go back home smiling.
For Fawad Khan fans it's a must watch as you will get to see the actor at his handsome best.

Why to watch Khoobsurat

  • Although Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Khoobsurat starring Rekha and Rakesh Roshan was a clean and lighthearted movie back then, Shashanka Ghosh's remake featuring Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan will be a funky spin to the original.

  • If the movie becomes a hit at the box office then tracks such as Engine Ki Seeti, Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai and Maa Ka Phone will enjoy equal amounts of success. We must say the film has taken a safer route by incorporating a happy song, a club song, a Punjabi number and a sad song in the movie.
