Sophiya Haque passes away

Former Channel V VJ turned actress Sophiya Haque passed away today morning in UK. This multi talented British Bangladeshi actress cum singer was reportedly suffering from cancer. She was well known for her roles in crossover films like 'The Far Pavilions', 'Wah Wah Girls' and 'Bombay Dreams'.

She was a famous TV host in the nineties and her exotic looks and urban ways ensured that she gathered lot of admiration. The actress tried to prove her worth with her dances in 'The Rising : The ballad of Mangal Pandey', 'Sandhya', 'Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya' and many more, but failed to establish herself as a star. The actress then decided to move abroad. Sophiya appeared in BBC's 'Fairy Tales' series with Denise Van Outen. She also starred in one of the UK's biggest TV drama 'Coronation Street' as 'Poppy'. Sophiya has also played a small part in the Angelina Jolie - James McAvoy starrer movie 'Wanted'.

Following the sad demise of the talented Sophiya Haque, several Bollywood celebrities expressed their grief on twitter. Director Ken Ghosh tweeted, "Just heard sad news of the passing away of the live wire ex vj of channel v, sophia haque(sic)."

Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also took to Twitter: "Tragic news about Sophiya Haque. One of the most gorgeous women to have walked this planet... Shine on where-ever it is you now are luv...(sic)."

Quizmaster Derek O’ Brien also tweeted about the actress' sudden death: "Sophia Haque was my guest on the Bournvita Quiz Contest in the mid 1990s...  Vivacious,sexy,articulate.Gone too soon(sic)."
