Salman's hearing adjourned till Sep 5

Actor Salman Khan's hearing in the 2002 hit-and-run case has been adjourned to September 5. Salman is being tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. A Mumbai sessions court framed charges against the popular Bollywood actor on July 24, 2013. If convicted, the actor could face up to 10 years in jail.

The busy actor has been exempted from appearing in court for each hearing. The court announced that the case will now be heard by a different judge.

In September 2002, Salman reportedly ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement in a suburban Bandra area, killing one person was killed and injuring four others. Salman has also been charged under sections 279 (for rash and negligent driving), and 337 and 338 (causing grievous hurt).

The Mumbai police maintains that they have enough evidence against Salman, a claim accepted by the sessions court, which had rejected Salman's appeal against charging him with 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' just last month.
