Ranbir-Anushka get Bombay in Sri Lanka

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for his most awaited film 'Bombay Velvet'. The 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director is all set to re-create Bombay of the 1950s through '70s, but in Sri Lanka instead of Mumbai.

The set for the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer will amount to a whooping Rs. 22 crore! Anurag has decided to make the set of 'Bombay Velvet' in Sri Lanka mainly to avoid the Mumbai monsoon. A source reveals, "Unlike Mumbai, which has monsoon from mid-June to mid-September, the weather is comparatively dry in Sri Lanka during that time. Four acres have been marked off near Colombo, where art director Sonal Sawant will put up sets to recreate old Bombay."

Kashyap even avoided building rain-proof sets in Mumbai because of the added municipal charges and the tiring task of getting extensive permissions. "It's more expensive to build the sets here. We'll need extensive permissions as it will take about a month and a half only to get the sets built. Plus, managing the municipal corporation, police and other organisations will also add to the cost. We might as well spend the extra amount on travel and accommodation in Lanka," the source adds.
