Raj Kapoor's Awara returns!

The 1951's classic film,  Awaara, directed and produced by the legendary Raj Kapoor, will soon re-release in coloured version. The movie celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011 and now there are plans to release it again in a coloured version.

The Kapoor family is keen to preserve the copyright of the film under RK Films banner. The Raj Kapoor-Nargis starrer to re-release stems from the fact that the copyright term of a cinematic work ends post 60 years of its release, after which it passes into the public domain.

Actor Rishi Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor wanted to make a remake but Ranbir was against the idea as he thought that the classic should remain untouched. Apparently, the family now is planning their way out with a coloured re-release. The colouring procedure will be done at a top studio abroad. The film will also mark the comeback of the RK Banner, the first release of the production house after twenty-two years.

Randhir Kapoor said, "Yes, I am aware that Awara is more than 60 years old. We are thinking what to do. We haven't yet taken the final call, though."
