Piku, a film with both motion and emotion revolves around a father-daughter relationship, which is sweet, amusing and engrossing. Deepika Padukone plays Piku, an independent single architect who manages her career, home and her cranky father at the same time. On the other hand her father is played by Amitabh Bachchan (Bhashkor Banerjee), a 70 year old man who is obsessed with his constipation problem and is always grumbling about it. The movie is different as it does not show the pitch-perfect image of a father- daughter relationship. Just like any other regular family, they fight, they make-up and move on in their life. Deepika's Masi( Maternal Aunt) is played by Moushumi Chatterjee, a carefree woman who is worried about Piku's single status and wants her to get married soon. The argument between her and Amitabh regarding the marriage makes the film even more interesting. The story moves forward when Irrfan Khan( Rana Choudary) comes into the scene as a cab service owner who takes Piku and her aged father to a road trip from Delhi to Kolkata.

Who better than a film-maker knows about the character of his film? Director Shoojit Sircar has done a great job in putting up such an engrossing cast together on the silver screen. He describes a father daughter relationship perfectly with a twist of sweet and simple love story in it. After making the nation laugh about the sperm in Vicky Donor, Juhi Chaturvedi and Shoojit Sircar take the 'potty' topic very decently and a notch higher with this fine film.

Deepika is one of the finest actresses in the industry currently and she proves her potential yet again with this film. She as Piku manages to create a perfect drama, which makes you glued to the big screen in the entire film. Being single, she also tries her best to maintain an active sexual life with her friend and colleague, which is played by popular Bengali actor Jishu Sengupta. Her role in the film reminds me of an independent woman who have a mind of her own and does not allow anyone to rule her life.

Amitabh Bachchan is named as a megastar with a reason. The actor can pull off any character with such an ease that it makes us connect to him in real life. Big B's attitude in the film is a bit childish who is dependent on his daughter but does not want to admit it. It felt like there was no film going on the screen, but it was a video recording of a family which has captured the day to day life of a daughter and her aging father.

Irrfan Khan as Rana Choudary managed to impress us with his sweet and simple character, which stands out in the film. He does not have many dialogues when compared to Amitabh and Deepika, but the actor will surely make you laugh with his amazing comic timings, when he helps Piku's father Bhashkor to solve his constipation problems by suggesting him funny techniques.

Another refreshing thing about Piku is that it does not deal with the typical romantic relationships like cliched Bollywood movies. Despite of an odd pairing, the romance between Irrfan and Deepika is genuine and adorable, mainly because it is delicate and understated.

Verdict- If you want to watch a sweet family drama without typical but interesting Bollywood romance featuring three outstanding actors, then don't give this movie a miss.
