Nawazuddin in Masoom remake?

Shekhar Kapoor announced his arrival in 1983 with the heart-wrenching classic Masoom. Three decades later, we have newcomer, Bedabrata Pain, who is all set to follow the filmmaker's footsteps by remaking the classic. The director also wants Nawazuddin Siddiqui to play the character portrayed by Naseeruddin Shah in the original.

The young filmmaker says, "It is still too early to comment on it. But yes, I am planning to direct a Hindi film, which is a remake of Masoom. Indian society has changed drastically since Masoom was made and it is my challenge to portray an eternal love story in a new social environment."

Masoom (1983) starred Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Jugal Hansraj, Urmila Matondkar and others. The film was based on Erich Segal's book, Man, Woman and Child.

When the filmmaker was quizzed about considering Nawaz playing the lead, he reveals, "Well, a lot of actors are under consideration for this role and this includes Nawaz. I'm also a big fan of his and would love to cast him. This can be confirmed only when we've something in black-and-white."

Nawazuddin also admitted talking to Bedabrata, "Bedo had called me and expressed the desire to work with me. But I have no idea what the film is all about as at that time, he was abroad and said he would discuss the project with me once he returned to India. We haven't spoken after that."
