It's a close call

This week’s BO opening weekend saw Nautanki Saala overtake Commando by the smallest margin.  While on Friday, Rohan Sippy’s crores madcap comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunaal Roy collected Rs 3.25 crores in the urban centres, the movie saw a higher jump over Saturday and Sunday with a total collection of 4.25 and 4.5 crores. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed by tweeting, “#NautankiSaala Fri 3.25 cr. Picked up at plexes of urban centres.”   On the other hand, Vipul Shah’s Commando starring Vidyut Jamwal had a decent turnover in single screen theatres and managed to collect Rs 3.75 crores on Friday. Adding an additional Rs 3.39 crores on Saturday and 3.90 crores on  Sunday. With a total of Rs 11.04 crores in its opening weekend, the action flick is at par with Nautanki Saala. Taran said, “#Commando Fri 3.75 cr. Excellent at single screens of mass circuits.”   Leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi observes the success of the two films to the success of other smaller films at the recent BO, “Commando & Nautanki Saala have both helped the trade sustain the momentum that Chashme Baddoor had generated last week by drawing excellent numbers over the weekend! While Nautanki Saala has grown steadily at the multiplexes, Commando has shown a rather strange trend – The smaller the center, the better the occupancy” he said.
