'Bombay to Goa' director passes away

Filmmaker S Ramanathan, the director-producer well known for 1972 adventure comedy movie 'Bombay to Goa' starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Aruna Irani and Mehmood is no more. The 83 year old filmmaker survived by two daughters and a son, passed away on 9th January 2013 following a cardiac arrest in Chennai while listening to music.
S Ramanathan had worked mostly with two legendary actors of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and Mehmood. The filmmaker had made other brilliant movies like 'Geraftaar', 'Ganga Jamuna Saraswati', 'Mahaan', 'Do Phool' and 'Faisla'. 'Geraftaar' was produced by Ramanathan and starred Big B along with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, while 'Zamaanat' is yet to be released. The movie was Bachchan's last film with the late director. Amitabh Bachchan conveyed his grief about the sudden death of the filmmaker saying, "My director S Ramanathan of several films-Bombay to Goa, Mahaan, Giraftaar, Zamaanat, passes away suddenly... no words of grief can express enough...(sic)".
His son Sudhish said, "He was in hospital since the past week. He was complaining of breathlessness, but since the past two days he was fine and was brought back home."
The last rites of the filmmaker will be performed on 10th January in Chennai. Many Kannada film personalities will be present in his funeral procession. May his soul rest in peace and his family cope up with the sudden loss!
